Description: Hard copy data, such as plat maps and metes and bounds documents are the main sources for locating drainage easements. The title search company REDVISION was used to pull plat maps and metes and bounds documents for the project area. REDVISION highlighted any reference or depiction of drainage easements withinin the documents. REDVISION delivered PDF bundles organized by subdivision names to Jones Edmunds. After reviewing a plat map and confirming the location of Drainage Easement the PDF bundle was converted to jpegs. The corresponding jpegs were brought into ArcMap to be Georeferenced using the Georeferencing Toolbar. When Georeferencing, the St Johns County 2014 Parcel Shapefile was used to help with spatial accuracy. Multiple control points were used to create the best fit.A few techniques were used when digitizing the georeferenced plat maps. The techniques were free hand digitizing with snapping, buffering, and copying lines parallel. When free hand digitizing the user draws lines along the Drainage Easement lines show on the plat maps and snaps endpoint to the parcel lines and vertices. When using the two other techniques the user needs to create a blank temporary line shapefile. When using the buffering technique the user draws a temporary line along a parcel line. Using the Buffer Tool a buffer would then be created that is equal to the measurement shown on the plat map. The easement shapefile would then be drawn in the appropriate location. For the final technique, the temporary line would be copied parallel the proper distance and direction. The easement shapefile would then be drawn in the appropriate location, using the temporary lines for snapping guides.
